Land Clearing in Lake Charles & Calcasieu Parish
SWLA land grows back faster than almost anywhere in the country — leave a lot alone for two seasons and you've got sapling pine thickets, yaupon brush, and smilax vines where a pasture used to be. Whether you're prepping a build site, reclaiming fence lines, opening up acreage toward Iowa and DeQuincy, or just taking your property back from the wild, we clear to your actual end use, not just "to the dirt."
What We Clear
- Residential lots. Pre-build clearing in the growing subdivisions around Moss Bluff, Carlyss, and north Sulphur — remove the scrub, protect the keeper trees, rough-grade ready for the builder.
- Fence lines. The classic SWLA chore: years of volunteer pine, sweetgum, and briar along boundary fences. We cut, chip, and re-open the line so your fence crew can actually work.
- Pasture and acreage edges. Reclaiming grazing or mowing acreage from encroaching brush, selective hardwood release (get the junk out, let the good oaks spread).
- Storm-damaged tracts. Laura and Delta left thousands of rural acres in Calcasieu Parish with downed and damaged timber. We handle small-parcel cleanup the big salvage loggers won't drive out for.
- Ditch and drainage edges. Keeping water moving on flat Gulf-adjacent land matters. We clear ditches and culvert approaches with erosion in mind.
Selective vs. Full Clearing
Selective clearing keeps the trees with value — legacy oaks, healthy pines, shade trees near the home site — while removing everything competing or hazardous. It costs more per hour than bulldozing because it's decision-by-decision work, but your property ends up worth more, not less. Full clearing takes everything to grade: trees felled and removed, stumps ground or pushed, brush chipped. On acreage we often mix: full-clear the build envelope, selective-clear the rest.
Debris: Mulch In Place, or Haul Off
Cleared biomass becomes either an asset or a pile. Mulch-in-place (forestry mulching) shreds brush and small timber on the spot into ground cover that suppresses regrowth and holds moisture — usually the best option on acreage. Chip-and-haul removes everything, leaving bare graded soil — preferred for build sites. We price both ways so you can see the trade.
How Land Clearing Is Priced
| Job Scale | Typical Pricing | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Residential lot (under 1/4 acre) | $1,000–$3,500 | Access, keeper trees, stump handling drive the range |
| Fence line (per 100 ft) | $300–$800 | Density of regrowth |
| 1–5 acres, light-to-moderate brush | $1,500–$4,000 per acre | Mulch-in-place pricing; heavy timber higher |
| Storm-damaged parcel | Walk-and-quote | Hazard timber changes the math — photos help, site visit decides |
